“Perfect balance is like a razor’s edge, it can be found only in Self.”

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

In life, we often feel lost, stuck, and in the quagmire of procrastination that keeps pulling us backward rather than propelling us forward. It seems we have lost balance and focus in life. Being in the middle of the pandemic, there is so much uncertainty and fear around us. It is challenging to maintain calm and composure leave alone plan for the future. Today is the 22nd of September is known as the autumn equinox which is when the sun is exactly above the equator. This means that the day and night are equal lengths. Every day nature flourishes and shares its wisdom. Today is a wonderful invitation to be courageous and manifest the intention of balance. Give yourself permission to nurture with awareness and focus as it is all about equilibrium. The above quote by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar helps us understand that balance is found within so let us empower ourselves with 3 tools to harness the energy of Autumn Equinox to be the catalyst of transformation.

1.Connection with Reflection

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

Aristotle

As the sun is passing directly over the Earth’s equator causing day and night to be equal it is an epitome of balance that naturally happens on this day. Let us harness this energy to be aware of areas in your life that are tipsy turvy and celebrate areas that are balanced.

Ask yourself some of the below questions and journal the answers that will empower you to set intentions of equipoise.

  • How much time do you invest in self-care and is that sufficient?
  • Is there a balance between your social, business, and family life?
  • What is your investment in manifesting your dreams?
  • How much time are you spending outside in compassion to indoors?
  • Is there a balance between you onscreen and offscreen communication?
  • Hand on your heart, are you using your time wisely?
  • Is there a balance between your creative in the flow mind and your logical controlling thinking mind?

2. Connection with flow

“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

C.G. Jung

Usually, our negative thoughts and emotions are an obstacle on our pathway to balance and flow. So try and dig deeper to address what is really holding you back so you can realise it. As the winter approaches, we need to develop resilience so one of the ways to do this is to clear the path by letting go of that which does not serve us.

Get yourself in a comfortable position and take a few long deep breaths. Feel yourself anchored and grounded by mother earth. Allow yourself to visualise what you really desire and link it with your present moment with the awareness of where you are and what you want. Gently using your inner awareness, your intuition, tune into what needs to be released so you can be carried in the flow towards your aspirations. Here are some thoughts you can ponder and introspect on.

  • What are the thoughts that are holding you back?
  • Are there any recurrent patterns that are not allowing you to move forward?
  • Is there anyone or any relationship that is hindering you?
  • Can you identify any habit that is controlling you in its grip?
  • Are you aware of any beliefs that are pulling you back?

A simple exercise is to write the answers of these on a piece of paper and then tear the piece of paper with your hands in small pieces. You may need to do this a few times whilst you are taking deep breaths and feeling grounded so you can release the associated negativity.

3.Connection with Gratitude

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”

Eckhart Tolle

The fact that you are reading this and willing to restore balance is sufficient for you to be grateful and tune into abundance. This quote by Eckhart Tolle is so simple yet so effective in times of turmoil. Whilst we need to acknowledge our distress and not ignore it, the key is to focus on what we have so we build resources. Gratitude is a wonderful muscle we all have and the more we practice it, the stronger it becomes.

Regardless if you have been able to answer or reflect upon any of the above suggestions, this invitation to be grateful, is a practice we all can engage in. Even if sometimes it may not seem authentic, the more we do it, the more we will realise it is the core of our being, to be grateful for the abundance of life. Some of the phrases we can repeat it ‘I’m grateful for this opportunity to create a loving space for myself’, ‘I’m grateful that I can release what does not serve me with gratitude and love’, ‘I am restoring balance to receive with gratitude and love’.

Concluding thoughts

“Life Is A Balance Between Holding On And Letting Go.”

Rumi

Often we are too focused on our efforts and doing that we actually forget the importance of being and doing nothing. So whilst it is poignant to aware of what is happening around us like it is Autumn Equinox today, it is also important to go with the flow. That is a fine balance that we will reach with being and stillness. To err is human and that is what we are, learning to be human beings. So in this short sojourn of our human life, let us not be too hard oneself. We can strive to achieve balance and also discern what we need to hold on. Sometimes we may let go of the only thing that keeps us going so it is all about being, learning, and being. Life is a beautiful circle and as long as we are fluid and flexible we will be molded and crafted within and without towards fulfilment.
